General Information
Iowa's IIS is the Immunization Registry Information System (IRIS), and it includes immunization records for vaccine recipients of all ages. Visit this webpage to learn more about the IIS.
The jurisdiction is authorized by law to operate IRIS. For more information, please see Iowa Administrative Code R 641-7.11(1).
Child Consent to Participate
For children, IRIS requires implicit consent with opt-out by law. Children are included in the IIS unless their parent(s)/guardian(s) choose to opt them out.
Adult Consent to Participate
For adults, IRIS requires implicit consent with opt-out by law. Adults are included in the IIS unless they choose to opt out.
Provider Reporting
Iowa does have a mandate for vaccination providers to report immunizations to IRIS. The reporting mandate:
- Applies only to certain providers.
Data Sharing
Iowa does have a policy that regulates sharing data from IRIS with other public health entities. The data sharing policy:
- Requires a data use/sharing agreement or memorandum of understanding and
- Requires protecting the data's confidentiality.
