The Issue

  • In the Philippines, limited national data on mpox have constrained understanding of its epidemiology, transmission patterns, and risk factors.

What We Did

  • We studied the demographic characteristics, transmissibility, exposure, clinical outcome, and risk factors of laboratory-confirmed mpox.

What We Found

  • Mpox transmission in the Philippines was primarily driven by sexual networks of men who have sex with men, with high-risk sexual behaviors and HIV co-infection.

What This Means

  • Focused, integrated interventions combining mpox prevention, sexual health education, and HIV care are needed to control future outbreaks.
