The Issue

  • After a period of low activity during early 2025, 50 monkeypox cases were reported in Dallas County during July–October, representing a 400% increase in reported cases. This spike raised concerns about ongoing transmission; however, limited information is available regarding populations affected.

What We Did

  • We reviewed monkeypox cases reported during July 1–October 31, 2025, through Dallas County's Disease Analytics and Localized Investigation and Surveillance System in order to describe demographic and epidemiologic characteristics of persons affected.

What We Found

  • Among the 50 identified cases, two patients were hospitalized and no deaths were reported. Cases occurred primarily among adult men who had recent sexual contact with male partners and were unvaccinated against monkeypox.

What This Means

  • This highlights the importance of vaccination outreach and community-based prevention efforts to keep populations at risk aware of ongoing monkeypox circulation in the United States following the 2022 outbreak.
