1CDP Innovation Challenge Event

Calling All Innovators!

The next 1CDP Innovation Challenge event will take place on Wednesday, October 28 at 1–4 p.m. ET. CDC partners, CDC staff, and their support contractors are invited to pitch ideas to a panel of public health judges for an innovative reusable or enterprise-wide capability that would benefit the broader 1CDP user base. The winning pitch will be invited to engage in a future scoping exercise to explore slotting the idea into 1CDP development planning.

1. What is this event?

The 1CDP Innovation Challenge is a meeting where participants can pitch ideas to a panel of public health judges for their consideration. This challenge is open to internal CDC staff and external partners, including national organizations and state, tribal, local, and territorial jurisdictions. The event is also open to contractors who are directly connected and working with a CDC program or jurisdictional partner, as long as the CDC program or jurisdictional partner approves their participation (see question 6).

2. Where is the event located?

This is a hybrid event. The event is virtual only for non-CDC staff. CDC staff and contractors have the option of attending virtually or in person at the Roybal Campus.

3. What are the requirements to pitch an idea?

• To be considered for the event, please submit a high-level description of your idea by the end of day on September 9 (selected presenters will be notified by September 25).
• Pitches must be for enterprise or reusable capabilities, meaning that many groups will benefit from the capability! Pitches that are not focused on enterprise or reusable capabilities will be considered but deprioritized to help us find efficiencies in our innovation.
• During the event, each presenter will have five minutes to pitch their idea, followed by five minutes of Q&A with the panel.
  
• Presenters should use a fun presentation style like PowerPoint (or another tool) to pitch. If you choose to use PowerPoint, presentations will be due to the 1CDP team by October 23.

4. What should my five-minute pitch cover?

• What is the problem/challenge?
• What is the solution to the problem/challenge?
• What is the potential impact of the solution if it were to be implemented?
• OPTIONAL: What is the estimated level of effort?
• OPTIONAL: Are resources needed? If yes, briefly describe.
• OPTIONAL: What is the estimated timeframe required to implement?

5. What happens if my idea wins?

A scoping/planning exercise will be conducted (scheduled post-event) to explore slotting your idea into the overall 1CDP Roadmap. No resources are promised.

6. What approvals do I need to submit a pitch?

• CDC employees do not need to provide written supervisor approval.
• Employees of jurisdictional partners should follow their organization's policies for participation and pitch submission.
• Contractors must get written permission from the CDC program or jurisdictional partner they are supporting. Contractors may only submit projects that are covered within their statement of work and should consult their contracting officer representative for guidance.

7. Can I still pitch my idea if it requires resources that are beyond my control/authority?

Yes, but make sure to explain what those resource needs are.
