Cache Valley Virus

Cache Valley virus is spread to people by infected mosquitoes. Very few cases of Cache Valley virus disease have been reported in the United States. All have occurred in late spring through early fall. Cache Valley virus can cause an illness with fever or more severe disease, including infection of the brain (encephalitis) or the lining around the brain and spinal cord (meningitis). There are no vaccines to prevent or medicines to treat Cache Valley virus infection. You can reduce your risk of infection by using insect repellent and wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants to prevent mosquito bites.
