Select-Lot Varenicline Recall

Pfizer has issued a voluntary consumer-level recall for select lots of varenicline due to nitrosamine content. Visit FDA’s webpage for up-to-date information and guidance for this recall as well as information about nitrosamine impurities in medications. FDA notes patients taking recalled varenicline should continue taking their current medicine until their pharmacist provides a replacement or their doctor prescribes a different medication that treats the same condition. The health benefits of stopping smoking outweigh the cancer risk from the nitrosamine impurity in varenicline. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have concerns about your medication.
