| Slide 27. Completion of TB Therapy, United States, 1993–2006. The reporting areas began providing information
on completion of therapy in 1993 through the individual TB case report form. The calculations exclude patients with an initial isolate resistant to rifampin as well as children with meningeal, bone or joint, or miliary disease. Overall completion of therapy has remained at approximately 92% from 1998 through 2006. Completion
in 1 year or less increased from 64% in 1993 to 84% in 2006, the latest year with available data. The current
DHHS Healthy People 2010 objective is completion of therapy in 1 year or less in 90% of patients. CDC is working with state and local health departments to determine and evaluate reasons for apparently delayed completion of therapy, which may vary by jurisdiction.
