for 1998 and 2008 in these side-by-side maps. The number of states with at least 50% of cases in the foreign-born increased from 12 states in 1998 to 29 states and the District of Columbia in 2008. The number of states with at least 70% of cases in the foreign-born increased from two (HI and MN) in 1998 to fourteen (CA, CO, CT, MA, MD, ME, MN, NH, NJ, NY, OR, RI, VA and WA) in 2008 (not shown on slide).
