The sessions in this interactive workshop include a review of health literacy basics, strategies for effective oral communication, methods for creating easy-to-read educational materials, standards for reviewing and revising print materials, and techniques for conducting organizational assessments. Participants practice clear health communication techniques, receive literacy resources, and network and share ideas with other participants.
Audience
The workshop is intended for people who have some basic knowledge of health literacy as well as skills, knowledge, and resources to address low health literacy in their respective patient or client populations. Attendees may be from community-based, nonprofit, and faith-based organizations; health care settings; and cooperative extension agencies; and may include health care providers and allied health professionals, nurses, health educators, outreach and social workers, behavioral scientists, wellness specialists, and students.
