Topics:
Nutrition & Physical Activity for Adults | Obesity & Overweight

Walking trails built in southeast Missouri’s rural, African American communities have not been widely promoted by health advocates. Researchers selected six walking trails and used computer-tailored messages, information distributed to physician’s offices and churches, and community contests and incentives to encourage residents to use the trails. Researchers will evaluate the effectiveness of the promotional campaign by examining participant surveys, trail walker interviews, the number of walkers using the trails, and community event logs of the six walking trails with those of another six trails that were not included in the promotional campaign.
