Topics:
Nutrition & Physical Activity for Adults | Nutrition & Physical Activity for Youth

Researchers are designing a comprehensive surveillance system for monitoring weight status, nutrition, and physical activity and the effect of these factors on obesity and chronic disease. One component assessed the utility of data from nutrition and physical activity surveillance systems in supporting initiatives in 18 states to promote health programs and prevent obesity. Action in these states was compared with that in 11 states without comparable surveillance systems. Experts in these areas participated in a conference of national representatives who discussed creative ways to use survey data to generate effective statewide programs.
