Researchers are evaluating the effectiveness of a 2-day problem-solving skills development (PSD) program in promoting healthy development of young adults with epilepsy. The project is investigating the effect of group-based, educational and PSD interventions on ways of coping with life and on quality of life among youth with epilepsy. Analyses include examining associations between changes in coping strategies and quality of life ratings. The effect of the PSD intervention on the quality of life and coping strategies of parents and family members of adolescents with epilepsy is also being studied. A comprehensive review of the scientific literature on issues pertinent to developing successful recruitment strategies for psychoeducational interventions in adolescents with chronic health conditions is under way.
