Researchers reviewed scientific literature and examined teenage pregnancy-prevention programs throughout the nation to determine how best to lower the rate of teenage pregnancy. The prevention programs assessed 13 communities funded by CDC’s Community Coalition Partnership Program for the Prevention of Teen Pregnancy. Researchers analyzed teenage pregnancy and birth rates in the 13 communities and visited the communities to collect data on programs and services directly and indirectly related to teenage pregnancy. They also reviewed community activities that may have affected teenage attitudes and behaviors related to sex and contributed to reducing the rate of teenage pregnancy. From the information compiled, the researchers determined the best practices for teenage pregnancy-prevention programs. Four reports were created to highlight the results, and a guide was developed for other communities planning teenage pregnancy-prevention activities.
