Members of the Obesity Prevention Network collaborate in seeking strategies to prevent obesity among American adults. The network comprises researchers and other public health professionals from CDC, 7 prevention research centers, and 12 state health departments. Members share their expertise with each other and conduct studies in their communities. Since its start in 2000, the network has recommended research studies, evaluated approaches to preventing obesity, identified best practices, and provided program guidelines. One work group is evaluating methods of monitoring obesity in the United States, and the other is identifying factors and circumstances that contribute to obesity. The goals of the two work groups are to help state public health professionals collect and report data about obesity, and to help program developers plan and conduct effective programs.
