This project aims to develop and assess the effectiveness of a community-based intervention to increase colorectal cancer screening (CRCS) and encourage informed decision-making about screening among low-income Hispanic adults in the Lower Rio Grande Valley near the Texas-Mexico border. Factors influencing CRCS and decision-making about screening are being determined through a survey and then used to develop a tailored, interactive multimedia intervention designed to encourage discussion among viewers. This intervention or a standard small media intervention (educational video, flipcharts, and pamphlets) will be delivered to 480 participants by promotoras, or lay health workers, who live in the community. The two interventions will be evaluated for their effectiveness and compared.
