Topics:
Cardiovascular Health

Researchers are studying the extent to which women newly diagnosed with heart disease are referred to, enroll in, and complete cardiac rehabilitation programs. About 200 African American women and 200 white women aged 45 years or older, their physicians, and several cardiac rehabilitation centers are participating in the study through telephone and written surveys. Researchers are examining factors such as patients’ and physicians’ knowledge, beliefs, and attitudes toward rehabilitation services; the types of services offered; and the availability and accessibility of services. Researchers hope to find the best strategies for helping women access and complete cardiac rehabilitation programs.
