Oral Health
This project aims to address oral health disparities among people of different ages and racial or ethnic backgrounds. A series of CD-ROMs that promote oral health are being designed for use in clinical, school, and senior activity settings for specific age, ethnic, and language groups. The CD-ROMS are being designed for pregnant women, young children aged 2–5 years with their parents from four community health clinics, primary school children (2nd and 3rd grades from four schools), and older adults for use in communities where ethnic minority and immigrant populations have little access to preventive dental services. This 3-year project will involve about 1,000 participants. Changes in participants’ knowledge of oral health, belief they can do what they learned, and use of preventive services will be assessed through a pre-test and a post-test 1-year after the intervention. The CD-ROM programs will be modified after the intervention to allow for their broad use with diverse populations.
