Topics:
Cancer

Colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy are two primary procedures for screening for colorectal cancer. Researchers are identifying factors that affect health care charges and insurance reimbursements for these procedures. Information is being gathered by using claims data from Medicare, MedStat (a health care information company that provides databases and research services for managing health care quality and costs), United Health Care, and the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS), which provides information about the utilization and costs of health care in the United States. The researchers will use results to create a table of charges and reimbursements and to identify factors that account for variations.
