CDC and public health officials in several states are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to broccoli sprouts produced by Evergreen Fresh Sprouts. If you have recalled broccoli sprouts in your home, throw them out or return them.

This outbreak does not appear to be related to the other recent multistate Salmonella and E. coli outbreaks traced to alfalfa sprouts produced by Everything Fresh Sprouts, LLC.

Evergreen Fresh Sprouts, LLC recalled broccoli sprouts.

  • Sold to food co-ops, restaurants, food service customers, and grocery stores in 3 states: Idaho, Montana, and Washington.
  • Sold in plastics bags or clam shell containers with expiration dates of 9/7, 9/9, 9/11, 9/14, and 9/16.
  • Product may have been distributed further, reaching additional states.

What you should do

  • Do not eat any recalled broccoli sprouts. Throw them away or return them.
  • Wash items and surfaces that may have touched the recalled broccoli sprouts using hot soapy water or a dishwasher.

Urgent

Call your healthcare provider right away if you have any of these symptoms:

  • Diarrhea and a fever higher than 102°F
  • Diarrhea for more than 2 days that is not improving
  • Bloody diarrhea
  • So much vomiting that you cannot keep liquids down
  • Signs of dehydration, such as:
    • Not peeing much
    • Dry mouth and throat
    • Feeling dizzy when standing up

What businesses should do

  • Do not sell or serve recalled broccoli sprouts.
  • Wash and sanitize items and surfaces that may have come in contact with recalled broccoli sprouts.

Symptoms of Salmonella

  • Most people infected with Salmonella experience diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps.
  • Some people—especially children younger than 5, adults 65 and older, and people with weakened immune systems—may experience more severe illnesses that require medical treatment or hospitalization.
