Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Response

CDC activated the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to support the response to the current Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) outbreak that was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China.

COVID-19 is caused by a virus, SARS-CoV-2, which is a new betacoronavirus that is infecting people and spreading easily and sustainably from person-to-person.

On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization publicly characterized COVID-19 as a pandemic.
