Mayaro virus

Mayaro virus is spread to people through the bite of an infected mosquito. The virus is found in parts of Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. Risk of infection is highest for people who live near forests or visit forests in tropical areas. The best way to protect yourself from Mayaro virus disease is to prevent mosquito bites. Use an Environmental Protection Agency-registered insect repellent and wear long-sleeves and pants when outside.
