ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) Project: A Model for Diagnostic Excellence

Project ECHO

In 2020, the Division of Laboratory Systems (DLS) is piloting a laboratory community of practice (CoP) on diagnostic excellence. The aims of the project are to

  • Connect laboratory professionals, clinicians, and subject matter experts in laboratory medicine
  • Use case-based learning to educate and train laboratory and healthcare professionals
  • Examine cross-cutting issues in clinical and anatomic pathology

This project is an adaptation of the clinician-based ECHO Model™external icon, developed by the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center.

The goals of this pilot are to

  • Engage laboratory expertise
  • Capture innovative use of data and promote data-driven processes
  • Share best practices

DLS will organize monthly 60–90-minute ECHO sessions where the CoP members convene to share best practices, tools, and resources that can help in reducing existing laboratory errors to improve diagnostic excellence.

Schedule of 2020 Pilot ECHO Sessions

Participate in a series of twelve sessions using the ECHO Model™ to engage laboratory expertise, capture innovative use of data, promote data-driven processes, and share best practices.
