Use of Market Research Data by State Chronic Disease Programs, Illinois, 2012–2014

The map indicates heavy smokers in each census tract as a percentage of the census tract population (% penetration). Multiple census tracts in and around Springfield, the western section of Chatham, Auburn, and northeastern Sangamon County (Riverton, Dawson, Buffalo, Illiopolis, and Mechanicsburg) have a percentage penetration greater than 44%. Areas with a percentage penetration less than 13% are located in Rochester and southwest of Springfield.
