New
Funding Available for Oral Health Programs
The funding announcement for
State-Based Oral Disease Prevention
Program CDC-RFA-DP08-802 has been posted to Grants.gov. This funding
opportunity invites states or territories to apply for funding to
build capacity and infrastructure to plan, implement, and evaluate
oral disease prevention and health promotion programs. CDC will
provide approximately $4,400,000 in FY 2008 to fund up to 15 awards
to states and/or territories. The due date for applications is May
27, 2008.

for more information about the current cooperative agreement 3022, which
concludes on June 30, 2008. This information is not an exact
reflection of the new funding announcement DP08-802. However, the
models and tools presented may be useful as examples that support
state activities. Information and instructions on the new funding
announcement can be found on Web-based CDC Sitescape. Instructions
for
access to Sitescape are provided in the announcement on Grants.gov.

National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES)
National Center for Health Statistics releases new oral health
report, with the latest statistics on tooth decay, use of dental
sealants, total tooth loss, and periodontal (gum) disease in U.S.
children, adolescents, and adults.

Cavities, Gum Disease, and Tooth Loss CDC is the lead
federal agency responsible for promoting oral health through public
health interventions.

Fluoridation Overview
A collection of resources on the benefits, safety, engineering
support, and other information on community water fluoridation and
fluorides.
State and County Water Fluoridation Information
My Water's Fluoride,
Oral
Health Maps and other resources provide up-to-date
information on the fluoride content of water in 32 participating
states.

Oral Health Programs
CDC provides funding and technical assistance to help state
and territorial health agencies develop and operate public health
programs to improve oral health. Currently,
12 states
and the Republic of Palau receive funds. CDC also has
developed a collection of tools to
assist states to build oral health program capacity, including a
tool for developing a state
burden document.
Recommended Infection Control Guidelines for Dentistry
These CDC guidelines provide the latest information on dental
infection control issues as well as consensus evidence-based
recommendations. See also the
