1.	People are exposed to a pathogen; some get sick and seek treatment
2.	Local or state health department is notified of possible outbreak and begins an investigation
3.	Epidemiologic data are collected
4.	At the same time, specimens are collected and tested
5.	Epidemiologic data are entered into NORS within 7 days of outbreak notification
6.	At the same time, genetic sequence data from specimens are uploaded into CaliciNet within 7 days of receiving specimens
7.	Outbreak and genetic data both arrive at CDC, where they are checked for accuracy, reviewed, linked and analyzed
8.	Health department enters additional outbreak data into NORS as available 
9.	CDC and health department summarize and publish NoroSTAT data
10.	NoroSTAT data used to assess current norovirus activity; better understand norovirus outbreaks; and develop recommendations and guidance to prevent future outbreaks
