Closing Remarks by Larry Fine, NIOSH
MR. ALEXANDER: It's my pleasure to introduce Larry Fine from NIOSH, who will handle the conference adjournment and make some final comments.
DR. FINE: Let's give a big hand to the last panel. Thank you all very much.
I want to thank all of the presenters and the audience; you've asked the presenters great questions. The presenters worked hard; many of them worked over Christmas. Many of them were not invited until Thanksgiving to come to the conference, and it's really been an amazing effort. We've received a lot of congratulations for the conference; but I think this is one of those conferences or activities where everything went right. I mean, for a serious accident to happen, a lot of things have to go wrong; but here a lot of things just happened to go right, so it's been a great conference.
I want to expressly thank my colleagues from NIOSH and OSHA. I want to give special thanks to Margo Daniel and Chris Gjessing who were the team leaders, and really who worked night and day over the last four months to put the conference together.
They were assisted by a team of people; Cheryl Estill, Sean Gallagher, Sandy Kasper, Mark Kitzmiller, Jim McGlothlin, Brian Moyer, Gary Orr, Vern Putz-Anderson and Jennifer Silk who all did a great job, too. Thank you all very much.
And last I want to thank our colleagues from Visions U.S.A, which is a great small company who helped put this conference together.
From my perspective the goal of this conference has been achieved in that many very successful programs have been described. One expected and welcome observation that I have made is that we all share a common commitment to make workplaces safer, each in our own way. At times this is obviously a daunting task, but I think it's an important one. We must persist each in our own way, to have faith that we have made a difference, and that we will continue to make a difference in the future.
Have a good and safe trip home. Thank you all very much.
