Safer Medical Device Implementation in Health Care Facilities

Step 1: Form a Sharps Injury Prevention Team

NIOSH suggests that one of the major elements of the process for selecting and evaluating safer medical devices is the formation of a sharps injury prevention team to develop, implement, and evaluate a plan to reduce needlestick injuries in the facility and to evaluate safer medical devices.

The health care facilities participating in this project have agreed to describe the process they used to identify sharps injury prevention team members and their recommendations regarding the composition of the sharps injury prevention team.
