Overview of State Program
The California Partnership to End Domestic Violence (CPEDV) is a coalition representing almost 100 organizations that respond to the needs and interests of battered women and their children. As the sole statewide voice for victims of family violence, CPEDV
works with policy makers, advocacy organizations, civil and criminal justice
professionals, child protective service workers, law enforcement officials,
and others to provide aid to victims of intimate partner violence.
CPEDV's goal is to work at local, state, and national levels to increase capacity to incorporate violence prevention principles into programs and activities. CPEDV provides technical assistance and training to Domestic Violence Prevention Enhancement and Leadership Through Alliances (DELTA) program subcontractors on community organization and mobilization, sustainability, logic model development, teen dating violence, primary prevention, collaboration, pre- and post-testing concepts, the public health approach to intimate partner violence, and the social ecological model. Presentations, critical discussions, conference calls, web seminars, face-to-face meetings, site visits, and e-mail communication are used to conduct this training and technical assistance.
The coalition has been working with its subcontractors to integrate these concepts into the Primary Prevention Initiative Outlines and logic models that were created within each Coordinated Community Response (CCR). CPEDV is also helping incorporate DELTA guidelines and prevention principles into CCR activity plans.
State Future Directions
CPEDV will continue working with its local subcontractors to provide prevention-focused technical assistance and training. CPEDV also plans to collaborate with local DELTA program coordinators and community partners to conduct a statewide conference geared toward educating the domestic violence field about the successes, challenges, and benefits of primary prevention.
CPEDB has formed an internal Prevention Leadership Team to assist with:- it's commitment to and capacity for primary prevention; and
- development of the organization's "prevention identity" (e.g., prevention website, listserv, training, etc.)
