Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) Cooperative Agreement Program
Funding Initiated In 2001
FY05 Funding April 1, 2005 through March 31, 2006 - $925,494
Activities Proposed for FY 05
Food Safety, Hepatitis Prevention and Control, National Electronic Disease Surveillance System, and West Nile Virus
Key Performance Indicators
Food Safety
- Continue to work closely with Epidemiology programs in Maryland to determine epidemiological implications of PFGE findings.
- Continue to work with Emerging Infections/FoodNet researches.
- Continue to develop new PFGE protocols and adapt protocols as recommended by CDC.
Hepatitis Prevention and Control
- Increased screening (lab requests) for clients of collaborating program (e.g., substance abuse program clients) identified at risk.
- Reduce incidence of new infections by reducing HCV transmission.
- Reduce the risk of chronic liver disease among HCV infected persons (e.g., by working with existing hepatitis C support groups and community partnerships to provide hepatitis C counseling and treatment).
National Electronic Disease Surveillance System
- Effectiveness will be measured through the enhancement of notifiable condition surveillance and disease control capabilities.
West Nile Virus
- On a year round basis, we will continue to communicate with partners to ensure that all suspected cases of WNV and related arbovirus are reported.
