Activities Proposed for FY 05
Food Safety, Hepatitis Prevention and Control, Influenza Surveillance and Response, National Electronic Disease Surveillance System, West Nile Virus, and General Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity
Key Performance Indicators
Foodborne Disease
- Percent of outbreaks reported within 60 days through EFORS.
- Revised foodborne outbreak manual, which will serve as the text for our training module.
Hepatitis Prevention and Control
- Convene three community forums to gather community input on gaps and barriers to hepatitis services.
Influenza Surveillance and Response
- Maintain and expand weekly Sentinel reporting sites.
- Monitor and enhance Excel spreadsheet for maintaining all positive lab cultures, including demographic information for in house and CDC.
National Electronic Disease Surveillance System
- Communicate with private laboratories to identify common messaging files for extracting data electronically into I-NEDSS (Including Quest and LabCorp).
- Maintain Web-based Provider Reporting.
West Nile Virus
- Maintain IDPH Access database used to track central nervous system disorders caused by viruses.
General Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity
- Maintain and update Travax, a valuable instrument which IDPH uses to provide current and accurate travel recommendations through local health departments for persons traveling to areas where medicines or vaccinations are needed to ensure the traveler's health.
- Revise the rules and regulations for the Control of Communicable Diseases to ensure rules are in compliance with the current guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
