Activities Proposed for FY 05

Antimicrobial Resistance, Food Safety, Hepatitis Prevention and Control, Influenza Surveillance and Response, and West Nile Virus


Key Performance Indicators

Antimicrobial Resistance
  • Division of Public Health holds monthly meetings with the epidemiology section and members of our laboratory staff.
Food Safety
  • The epidemiologist participates in NARMS quarterly conference calls.
  • Data on anti microbial resistance in Salmonella Newport isolates has been collected and monitored for emerging patterns of resistance in Delaware.
  • We continue to communicate and distribute statewide data on the prevalence of foodborne diseases.
  • Continue to participate in public outreach educational events promoting safe food handling.
  • Provide education about food safety to schools and other private organizations.
Hepatitis Prevention and Control
  • The strengthening of collaboration between epidemiology, state and regional laboratories.
  • The Hepatitis C Coordinator will monitor the progress of the clinic sites in developing and the integrating viral hepatitis prevention activities as part of clinic protocols.
  • The Coordinator will make regular reports to the Communicable Disease Integration Committee (CDIC), who will then provide appropriate feedback and direction.
Influenza Surveillance and Response
  • Success will be measured through the correct identification of isolates.
West Nile Virus
  • Continue the West Nile Virus Working Group to discuss and revise surveillance activities as needed.
  • The human West Nile Virus sero-survey will be completed with the assistance of the Blood Bank of Delaware and the Delaware Public Health Laboratory.
