Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) Cooperative Agreement Program Funding Initiated In 2001

Activities Proposed for FY 05
Antimicrobial Resistance, Food Safety, Hepatitis Prevention and Control, Influenza Surveillance and Response, National Electronic Disease Surveillance System, and West Nile Virus
Key Performance Indicators
Antimicrobial Resistance
- Attendance at CDC's Conference will ensure up to date awareness.
Food Safety
- Coordinate daily with e Communicable Disease Work Unit Nurse to track surveillance progress for possible foodborne disease agents.
- Conduct data analysis, prepare summaries and submit preliminary reports in EFORS to CDC for all confirmed foodborne outbreaks within 30 days of the onset of illness of the first case a final report within 60 days of the first case's illness onset.
- Attend the EIDC in Atlanta and the PulseNet/Foodborne Epidemiologist Conference in Seattle.
Hepatitis Prevention and Control
- The ADH Public Health Laboratory to develop and maintain the capacity to provide HCV testing.
- The ADH AIDS/STD and TB programs and the Arkansas community planning group to provide counseling and testing for high risk individuals.
- Distribution of 45,000 educational brochures to local health units in all the 75 counties in Arkansas.
Influenza Surveillance and Response
- Inoculation of cell culture within 48 hours of specimen collection.
National Electronic Disease Surveillance System
- All reports of NND will be sent to the CDC via the PHIN-MS. The CDC has already certified the PHIN-MS implementation in our NEDSS Base System test environment.
West Nile Virus
- Mosquito surveillance, trapping techniques, and control information will be provided through industry-presented seminars and ADH presentations.
- Bird identification, collection, and verification.
- Data gathered from surveillance of humans, dead birds, sentinel chickens, mosquitoes, and horses, was entered into the CDC – ArboNet database.
