NHANES III Linked Mortality Restricted-use File

 

Data File Description

The updated NHANES III Linked Mortality Restricted-use File provides mortality follow-up data from the date of NHANES III survey participation (1988-1994) through December 31, 2006. Mortality ascertainment is based primarily upon the results from a probabilistic match between NHANES III and NDI death certificate records. The NHANES III Linked Mortality Restricted-use data contains 33,994 records with information on NHANES III participant eligibility status, vital status, date of death, age at death, and underlying and contributing causes of death. Additional death certificate data are available by special request [PDF - 125 KB]. The NHANES III Linked Mortality Restricted-use data file does not contain perturbed data.

 

Data Availability

Due to confidentiality requirements, the NHANES III Linked Mortality Restricted-use data are accessible only through theNCHS Research Data Center (RDC). Approved researchers will be able to analyze data from the NHANES III Restricted-use Linked Mortality File in the RDC. All interested researchers must submit a research proposal to the RDC requesting to access the “2009 NHANES III Restricted-use LMF”. Special request variables [PDF - 125 KB], available separately, must be requested specifically, with additional justification, in the RDC proposal. Researchers will not be allowed to access variables from the NHANES III Public-use Linked Mortality File in the RDC.
