Organizational MIssion/ Goals
The North American Association of Central Cancer Registries, Inc. (NAACCR), the Association, is a professional organization that develops and promotes uniform data standards for cancer registration; provides education and training; certifies population-based registries; aggregates and publishes data from central cancer registries; and promotes the use of cancer surveillance data and systems for cancer control and epidemiologic research, public health programs, and patient care to reduce the burden of cancer in North America.
About NAACCR
Established in 1987 the mission of NAACCR is to develop and promote uniform data standards for cancer registration; provide education and training; certify population-based registries; aggregate and publish data from central cancer registries; and promote the use of cancer surveillance data and systems for cancer control and epidemiologic research, public health programs, and patient care to reduce the burden of cancer in North America. NAACCR, Inc. is a professional organization of cancer registries, national surveillance programs, related organizations, and individuals committed to the mission. Currently, NAACCR has 148 members including registries in all 50 states, all Canadian provinces, and all major cancer surveillance organizations in North America.
Partnership Activities with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
NAACCR partners with the National Center for Environmental Health at CDC to increase awareness and support for the Tracking Program and Network among public health professionals and cancer registries.
NAACCR supports the work of the Tracking Program by:
- Serving as co-chair for the Cancer Content Workgroup
- Educating NAACCR members and cancer registries about the Tracking Program and Network
- Helping develop, promote and distribute key messages, network updates, and other outreach materials regarding the Network
- Links to non-federal organizations are provided solely as a service to our users.
