New States Join the Tracking Network
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will provide funding for six more states to participate in its National Environmental Public Health Tracking Network. Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, South Carolina, and Vermont join the 16 states and one city already tracking and reporting timely environment and health data.
State health departments will use this data within their states. They will also provide it to CDC to use in the agency’s expanding nationwide environmental health surveillance system. “We’re excited to be able to fund six additional states. This is an important step in moving toward our goal of a nationwide Environmental Public Health Tracking Network,” said Judith Qualters, Ph.D., chief of CDC’s Environmental Health Tracking Branch. “Participation from more states helps strengthen this innovative tool that offers a more complete picture of our nation’s environmental health.”
CDC provided new state grantees between $575,000 and $875,000 to implement their own state tracking network.
