QuickStats: Percentage of Adults Aged 25--44 Years Reporting Fair or Poor Health,* by Sex --- National Health Interview Survey, United States, 1999--2009

The figure shows the percentage of adults aged 25-44 years reporting fair or poor health, by sex, in the United States during 1999-2009, according to the National Health Interview Survey. From 1999 to 2009, the percentage of adults aged 25-44 years whose health status was reported as fair or poor increased from 5.6% to 7.2%. During this period, the percentage reported to be in fair or poor health increased for men (from 5.3% to 6.6%) and for women (from 5.9% to 7.9%). For each year during 1999-2009, women in this age group were more likely to report fair or poor health than men in this age group.

* Respondents were asked to assess their own health and that of family members living in the same household as excellent, very good, good, fair, or poor. Data are presented only for respondents aged 25--44 years.

Estimates are based on household interviews of a sample of the U.S. civilian noninstitutionalized population. Denominators for each category exclude persons for whom data were missing.

From 1999 to 2009, the percentage of adults aged 25--44 years whose health status was reported as fair or poor increased from 5.6% to 7.2%. During this period, the percentage reported to be in fair or poor health increased for men (from 5.3% to 6.6%) and for women (from 5.9% to 7.9%).
