Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR)

Instructions for Continuing Education in MMWR  Weekly

The MMWR  office is now offering continuing education credit for the weekly publication. We now require that all authors and co-authors submit 1) a financial disclosure form 2) a short bio form OR a recent CV once the report has been accepted. Send all to Barbara Stallworth at bys5@cdc.gov or fax to (404) 498-2388. A typed signature on the disclosure form is sufficient. We also need the Corresponding Author to submit 2 or 3 content questions with answers. Please see instructions below on how to design your content questions.

  1. Questions should be in multiple choice format with 4 choices.
  2. Each question must have a single, best choice.
  3. The wording should be very close to the wording in the report (e.g., if the report talks about “hospitals and clinics”, the questions should refer to “hospitals and clinics”, not “health-care facilities”.)
  4. It must be possible from reading the report to select or exclude each of the 4 choices. (The questions are intended to assess the reader’s comprehension of the report, not to test their knowledge of medicine or public health.)
  5. The questions should be based on the most significant facts mentioned in the report. When possible, they should be based on facts or conclusions mentioned in the Summary Box.

Please note that these instructions to do apply to Notes from the Field. MMWR  will not offer continuing education credit for Notes from the Field, Announcements, or QuickStats.

Instructions for Continuing Education in Serial Publications

The MMWR  offers continuing education credit in the Serial publications. All individuals listed on the “Prepared by” section of the report are required to submit 1) a financial disclosure form 2) a short bio form OR a recent CV once the report has been accepted. The lead author must also submit the primary learning goal, 4 or 5 objectives, and 8 to 10 content questions with answers.

The goal of the report should show how the report would change/impact competence, performance, skills/strategies/interventions, application, or patient/client outcome. The objectives should measure steps to accomplish the primary learning goal.
