FOA Title: Cooperative Agreement Program for the National Academic Centers of Excellence in Youth Violence Prevention

Purpose

The purpose of this FOA is to announce the availability of fiscal year (FY) 2010 funds to establish National Academic Centers of Excellence in Youth Violence Prevention (ACEs). The goal of each ACE is to reduce youth violence in one defined high–risk community through implementation and evaluation of a multifaceted, evidence-based primary prevention approach. The Centers are expected to engage in reciprocally beneficial collaborations among researchers and non-governmental and governmental organizations (including the local health department), with the common goal of reducing youth interpersonal violence in a defined high-risk community. Centers are expected to comprise a core administrative infrastructure to support the implementation and evaluation of the youth violence prevention approach, and to foster the necessary collaborations. Centers funded under this announcement are expected to work together as an ACE Youth Violence Prevention Network to assist each other in achieving their implementation and evaluation goals in their respective sites. Centers are also expected to provide training opportunities for junior and future researchers in youth violence prevention; such opportunities should be integrated in and complementary to the activities of the Center.
