Local Agencies Palm Beach County,
Florida
The
School District of Palm Beach County in Florida receives funding from CDC’s
Division of Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV prevention education and
conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). The goals of the School District
of Palm Beach County HIV/AIDS Prevention Program are to increase the number of
youth in grades K-11 who receive HIV/AIDS prevention education, enhance HIV
prevention through community collaborations, ensure that school district staff
and community partners receive training in HIV prevention, and continuously assess
the program’s strengths and weaknesses to inform future program planning.

Providing HIV
Prevention Education
- Developing age-appropriate HIV/AIDS prevention education curricula and
activities for students in grades K–11.
- In collaboration with community partners, implementing HIV/AIDS prevention
programs for youth at greatest risk for HIV, STDs, and unintended pregnancy
using evidence-based interventions in after school, faith-based, and community
settings.
- Designing and implementing electronic and traditional skills-based
professional development on HIV prevention education strategies for teachers,
administrators, school staff and community partners.
Conducting the Youth Risk Behavior Survey
- Administering the YRBS to collect data on youth risk behaviors that are
representative of Palm Beach County students in grades 7-12.
- Developing a YRBS executive summary to highlight key results and describe
trends in health behaviors over time.
- Disseminating the YRBS executive summary to the superintendent and
other key district staff, school board members, school nurses, Palm Beach
County Department of Health, School Health Advisory Council, and other community
partners and stakeholders.
