Healthy KidsThe Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Ministry of Education receives funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV prevention education and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey. The goal of the HIV prevention program is to prevent and reduce sexual risk behaviors that result in HIV infection among youth.

RMI's Program Activities

Providing HIV Prevention Education

  • Providing professional development to teachers and administrators on both the existing HIV Prevention Education policy and the school HIV curriculum.

  • Supporting teachers, administrators and other school professionals to better reach parents and families with accurate information on HIV prevention and data regarding related behaviors.

  • Providing opportunities in peer education utilizing both evidence-based curricula as well as artistic outlets for high school students to educate their fellow youth.

Conducting the Youth Risk Behavior Survey

  • Administering the YRBS in middle schools and high schools to obtain data representative of all students in grades 6 −12.

  • Disseminating YRBS results to Ministry of Education leadership, schools, and community partners.
