DGHA Program Budget and Extramural Management: Heather B. Pumphrey, MA

Heather B. Pumphrey, began working with CDC as a Presidential Management Intern (PMI) in 1999 and has served in a variety of capacities including: Public Health Analyst with the National Center for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention and Center for Global Heath; Grants Management Specialist with the Procurement and Grants Office; and Budget Analyst with the Financial Management Office. She describes her position as the Deputy Branch Chief for DGHA’s HIV Prevention Branch as particularly exciting. This position afforded her the opportunity to grow professionally and personally. Exposure to and responsibility for the programmatic side of CDC’s work was enlightening to Heather.

She earned an undergraduate degree in Social Work from the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia and a Master of Arts in Public Administration from Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas. She is a life-long Georgia Bulldogs fan and thoroughly enjoys college football season every year.

Heather’s philosophy about work is quite simple and is borrowed from an anonymous quote on Facebook: “The one who says it cannot be done should never interrupt the one who is doing it.”
