Sources of Fungal Keratitis

The most common way that someone gets fungal keratitis is after experiencing trauma to the eye, especially if the trauma is caused by plant matter such as a stick or a thorn. Fungal keratitis cannot be spread from person to person.

In 2006, CDC investigated an outbreak of Fusarium keratitis that was associated with a specific type of contact lens solution, which was later withdrawn from the market. Click here for more detailed information about the outbreak.
