Technical Notes: Contributors

Contributor: Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program
The SEER Program currently collects and publishes data on cancer incidence and survival from 14 population-based cancer registries and 3 supplemental registries covering approximately 26% of the U.S. population.

Contributor: National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR)
NPCR registries cover 96% of the U.S. population. In January 2008, CDC received information on more than 13 million invasive cancer cases diagnosed during 1995–2005.  More than 1 million new invasive cancer cases are added each year.

Contributor: National Vital Statistics System (NVSS)
The nation's vital statistics are available from NVSS, which is maintained by the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). These vital statistics are provided through state-operated registration systems and are based on vital records filed in state vital statistics offices.

Collaborating Partner: North American Association of Central Cancer Registries, Inc. (NAACCR)
Both SEER and NPCR work closely with NAACCR to promote surveillance of cancer incidence in the United States and Canada.
