Indiana Cancer Control Plan

Indiana State Cancer Registry

While cancer incidence rates continue to decline, cancer is still the second leading cause of death in Indiana, impacting every person, family, and community. Using data from the Indiana State Cancer Registry in the Indiana Cancer Control Plan highlights the information the registry has to offer and makes registry data a central focus in planning comprehensive cancer control.

"Deciding with Data" is one of six areas of Indiana's cancer control plan. Comprehensive and timely cancer data are essential for evaluating progress toward cancer prevention and control. Data from the Indiana State Cancer Registry are featured prominently in the plan, with two objectives specifically relating to the use of state cancer registry data. This has increased awareness about the information we have and how to access it using our Web-based statistics generator or by making a request to our data release committee with a legitimate research proposal.

Data collected by the Indiana State Cancer Registry make it possible to review the burden of cancer in the state, set priorities with the Comprehensive Cancer Control team, and target areas that might be harder hit due to disparities, less screening, and other factors. Access to accurate, timely, and user-friendly data allows Hoosiers to make informed decisions regarding their health.
