Healthy KidsThe Pennsylvania Department of Education receives funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV prevention education and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). The goal of the Pennsylvania Department of Education HIV prevention education program is to strengthen state-level policies, programs, and support to help schools prevent HIV infection, especially among youth who are at highest risk.

Pennsylvania's Program In Action

Providing HIV Prevention Education

  • Utilizing a comprehensive system to monitor the HIV, STD and pregnancy prevention efforts on school-age youth programs and policies.

  • Working with the Community Planning Group’s Young Adult Roundtable in planning and evaluating HIV, STD and pregnancy prevention programs.

  • Developing guidance tools and resources to support implementation of effective HIV, STD and pregnancy prevention efforts.

Conducting the Youth Risk Behavior Survey

  • Administering the YRBS in high schools throughout Pennsylvania to obtain data representative of students in grades 9-12.

  • Establishing and maintaining effective partnerships with state and local agencies, non-profit and community organizations, and other stakeholders to support YRBS implementation and data utilization.
