National Nongovernmental Organizations (NGOs) Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP)
AMCHP is a national organization representing state public health leaders
and academic, advocacy, and family health professionals that works to
improve the health and well-being of women, children, youth (including those
with special health care needs), and families.
AMCHP's Program in Action
AMCHP is funded to provide Capacity-Building Assistance
for Preventing HIV Infections:
State and Local Health Agencies.
- Working with the National Stakeholders Collaborative (NSC) to strengthen
collaboration between state health and state education agencies to support and
improve prevention of HIV, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and unintended
and teen pregnancy for youth. The NSC is comprised of the National Alliance of
State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD), the National Coalition of STD
Directors (NCSD), the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP),
and the Society. During Year 4, the NSC is:
- Providing capacity building assistance to the four state teams that participated
in the National Stakeholder Meeting Reconvene (NSM-R) in January of 2009.
- Identifying and documenting success stories and lessons learned from state
teams receiving capacity building assistance.
- Providing a minimum of 2 in-state National Stakeholder Meeting 2.0s for state
teams that participated in previous National Stakeholder Meetings (NSM).
- Planning and executing an adolescent sexual and reproductive health
disparities summit in conjunction with AMCHP’s 2010 Annual Conference to provide
foundational knowledge on the current status of adolescent sexual and reproductive
health disparities, explore promising approaches, and develop workgroups to advance
current and create new strategies.
- Hosting an Adolescent Reproductive Health Information Series. AMCHP will showcase promising and evidence-based practices in adolescent
health and highlight national initiatives and resources, among other
topics, through a series of webinars on adolescent reproductive
health.
- Increasing Maternal and Child Health professionals’ awareness/access to information,
materials and issues related to adolescent HIV, STD and unintended teen
pregnancy prevention.
