Islands
The
Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Ministry of Education receives
funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV
prevention education and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey. The goal of
the HIV prevention program is to prevent and reduce sexual risk behaviors
that result in HIV infection among youth.RMI's Program
Activities
Providing HIV
Prevention Education
- Providing professional development to teachers and administrators on
both the existing HIV Prevention Education policy and the school HIV
curriculum.
- Supporting teachers, administrators and other school professionals
to better reach parents and families with accurate information on HIV
prevention and data regarding related behaviors.
- Providing opportunities in peer education utilizing both
evidence-based curricula as well as artistic outlets for high school
students to educate their fellow youth.
Conducting the Youth Risk Behavior Survey
- Administering the YRBS in middle schools and high schools to obtain
data representative of all students in grades 6 −12.
- Disseminating YRBS results to Ministry of Education leadership,
schools, and community partners.
