Healthy AdolescentsFlorida receives funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV prevention education and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). The mission of the HIV/AIDS Prevention Education Program is to strengthen the provision of effective HIV/AIDS prevention education in Florida.

Florida's Program In Action

Providing HIV Prevention Education

  • Professional development, information sessions and technical assistance provided by State Agency staff and the HIV/AIDS Prevention Education Cadre regarding updating policy, curriculum development, best practices, and parents as partners in HIV/STD and teen pregnancy prevention.

  • Providing resources and valuable program information through a user friendly web site and resource center.

  • Development and promotion of partnerships between state and local departments of health, school districts, and community-based organizations .

Conducting the Youth Risk Behavior Survey

  • Administering the YRBS to collect data that are representative of Florida students in grades 9−12, through a collaborative effort between Florida’s Department of Education and Department of Health.

  • Distributing information collected from the YRBS to statewide agencies, members of the statewide school health consortium, district staff, and community-based organizations.

  • Developing a comprehensive YRBS data report and numerous behavior-specific fact sheets to summarize YRBS results.
