The mission of NGA is to support the work of governors by providing a bipartisan forum to help shape and implement national policy, and to provide solutions to state challenges. The NGA Center for Best Practices is designed to respond to governors' policy-related needs and assist governors to implement federal policies in their states.

NGA's Program in Action

NGA is supported by DASH in collaboration with the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion and other Centers at CDC.

  • Developing a Governors Guide to Childhood Obesity that offers solutions and action steps governors may take to promote better health among children.
     
  • Supporting the Healthy Kids, Healthy America funding opportunity for states to address childhood obesity. Approximately $100,000 will be awarded to 10 states for creating a comprehensive, multi-year statewide plan for addressing childhood obesity.
     
  • Developing a decision-tree policy manual that provides a framework for the policy issues, programs, and evidence in obesity prevention and control.
