In April, ten weeks after becoming CDC director, I declared racism a serious public health threat that directly affects the well-being of millions of Americans and, as a result, affects the health of our entire nation.
Dr. Richard E. Besser shares his perspective on reimagining how we think about, collect, and act on public health data. And it must begin by centering equity in these efforts to eliminate racist systems and structures.
Dr. Benjamin speaks about the need to eliminate health disparities and address social determinants of health to both enhance our health as well as serve as a barrier to equal health. It is important that we reimagine and work towards a health system that works for everyone.
Dr. Gayle shares her perspective on the inescapable reality which is racism, and its many manifestations, that persist through our Nation. It is time for public health organizations around the country to actively work to diversify the nation’s public health workforce to find effective solutions to the nation’s health challenges.
